DECLARATION ON THE SANCTIONS OF THE EU TO VENEZUELA
The Working Group on Latin America of the Party of the European Left (EL) expresses its absolute rejection to the new aggression of the European Union (EU) against the Venezuelan people. The EU now intends to impose all kinds of sanctions on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, evidently inspired by the policies of boycott against humanity of international imperialism. The EU wants to extend its values of systematic repressive actions on workers - the infamous austerity policies - in independent and sovereign countries such as Venezuela. In other words, the EU once again violates the principles of the Charter of the United Nations on non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries. The EL denounces this decision of the EU, which also comes at a time when the National Dialogue Table in the Dominican Republic is being reactivated. It is insultingly evident that the intention of the EU is to favor the reactionary Venezuelan opposition in this Dialogue roundtable: the EU sides with the fascist forces that for years have tried to put an end to the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people. On the other hand, the EL is not surprised by this position of the EU, because it has already been demonstrated that this Union is nothing more than the continuation of the perverse colonialist mentality that defines capitalism not only European, but it is here that it did not hesitate in its moment to reveal its most terrifying face. This EU is militaristic and submissive to the mandates of the government of the United States and, by extension, to the intrinsic cruelty of capitalism. The European Union shows us once again its more subservient side, which is not representative of the European people, but of the interests of small financial groups tucked away by countries whose national governments mirror the worst of European history: colonialism, imperialism and fascism. A side that, according to the political signals in the continent, has already come out of hiding and becomes evident that the EU no longer hides its obviously reactionary character. The EL expresses its total solidarity with the Venezuelan people, with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and with the struggle that every day has to face against policies that try to put out the light of freedom turn on to the world by this sovereign people. We reiterate that the Party of the European Left will always support with clear firmness the struggle of all peoples against capitalism and its dictatorship.
