The European Left Party sends its most warm congratulations to Frente Amplio’s candidate Tabaré Vázquez for his victory this Sunday against the candidate from the right Luis Lacalle Pou. It will be the third consecutive government for the Frente Amplio (FA - Broad Front), having also obtained the majority in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
With 56.6% of the votes of the Uruguayan people the result provides a solid support to the policies the FA implements for the last 10 years, having obtained spectacular results such as reduced unemployment, increased wages, reducing indigence to the minimum, and receding poverty and inequalities in a spectacular manner in only a few years.
The EL conveys its solidarity and support to the Uruguayan and the whole Latin-American and Caribbean people who are moving towards the way announced by the elected president Tabaré Vazquez who expressed, after his electoral triumph, that “new horizons are being opened to conquer, growth, development, justice, dignity, rights; and that is our commitment”.
